Mexican Citizen Sentenced for Illegally Re-Entering U.S.

Madison, Wis. - John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Jose Obregon-Hernandez, 33, a citizen of Mexico, was sentenced yesterday by U.S. District Judge William Conley to four months in prison for illegally re-entering the United States after having been deported. Obregon-Hernandez pleaded guilty to this charge on November 17, 2011.

On September 7, 2011, federal, state, and local law enforcement officers arrested numerous illegal aliens in the Fort Atkinson area with gang ties. Obregon-Hernandez was a member of the 3P's street gang. He will be deported after his prison sentence has been served.

The charges against Obregon-Hernandez were the result of an investigation conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth Altman.
